Les Crêpes recently opened their newest location at 1308 Gaskins Road at Gayton Crossing. Producing both sweet and savory crepes, this restaurant never fails to satisfy its customers.
Inspired by French cuisine, Les Crêpes opened in 2014 in the Stony Point Fashion Park mall. After rave reviews, another location was opened in Carytown in 2017. Last year, Les Crêpes moved from their original location in Stony Point to their new location in Gayton Crossing.
As you walk through the doors, the smell of freshly-prepared crepes instantly hits you. Looking around, there are beautiful presentations of both sweet and savory crepes in every corner, about to be devoured by the other guests. As you are seated at a table, one question hits you: What crepe should I order?
I, along with four friends, recently visited Les Crêpes and was made to answer the same question. After fifteen minutes of pure debate, the five of us placed our order, deciding to get five crepes to share amongst ourselves: two savory crepes and three sweet crepes. Our order consisted of the Burger Crepe and the Carbonara Crepe, our two savory options; and the Nubana Crepe, the Brownie Crepe, and the Oreo Cookie Crepe, our three sweet options.
While debating which crepes to order, the five of us had to base our decisions off of someone’s deadly nut allergy. Luckily, our waitress was understanding and willing to help us. She informed us about which crepes had nuts, and even offered to ask the chefs to remove the Nutella decoration on the Nubana crepe. In hopes of keeping the review accurate and our friend safe, the five of us decided to order the Nubana crepe with Nutella on the top; as a safety precaution, the waitress brought us extra silverware. That way, we would have a set of silverware to designate each crepe, as well as our own set of silverware to eat, to avoid cross contamination.
Shortly after ordering, the two savory crepes arrived at our table. They did not disappoint.
Consisting of ground beef, bacon, cheese, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, avocado and roasted red pepper sauce, the Burger Crepe was even better than expected. “I chose the Burger Crepe because I was really hungry, and I thought that the ingredients within it would fill me up. In addition, eating a crepe that is supposed to be a replica of a burger sounded interesting to me,” explained Grace Stefanovich (‘22).
Alongside the Burger Crepe was the Carbonara Crepe. The Carbonara Crepe, consisting of chicken, bacon, eggs, alfredo sauce, cheese, and pesto sauce, was definitely one of the favorites. “I usually prefer sweet crepes because I associate crepes with sweetness, but I will say that the Carbonara Crepes at Les Crêpes really hit the spot,” claimed Nina Zeballos (‘23), “It seemed like an interesting choice. With savory crepes, I believe it’s a hit or miss, and the Carbonara Crepe was a hit.”
Upon finishing the savory crepes, the three sweet crepes arrived.
The first sweet masterpiece that we dug into was the Brownie Crepe, which consisted of vanilla ice cream and a brownie in a crepe bowl topped with Nutella, white chocolate, and chocolate sauce. Lili Zeballos (‘23) claimed, “I ordered the Brownie Crepe because you can never go wrong with chocolate everything. I am a dessert purist who enjoys simple flavors.”
Secondly, we dug into the Oreo Cookie crepe, my personal favorite. This delectable crepe consists of Oreo ice cream, topped with Oreo cookie crumbles, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. Stefanovich, who also claimed that this was her favorite, stated, “I preferred the sweet crepes, especially the Oreo Crepe because of the ice cream. I loved the mix of the ice cream mixed with whipped cream, and the portion size was perfect.”
The Nubana Crepe, a chocolate crepe with banana, Nutella, whipped cream, and a side of vanilla ice cream, was “visually and physically tasty,” described Lauren Lucy (‘22). Lucy decided that it would be beneficial to order the Nubana Crepe because “a Nutella and banana crepe is a crepe staple, and I wanted to see Les Crêpes take on the simple flavors.”
As one can imagine, having a crepe with Nutella near someone with a nut allergy can be concerning. Although being in this situation can be stressful, “the staff was very accommodating to allergies and gladly answered any questions. Our waitress checked on us frequently and provided us with new utensils and plates between dishes,” stated Lili Zeballos (‘23). Lucy added, “the waitress was very adaptable.”
Not only was the taste of these crepes impressive; the appearance was just as breathtaking. Lili stated, “The crepes were each very appealing, as they came with different decorations specific to each plate.” Stefanovich added, “they were all pleasant looking and had good proportions. If I were to go back, I would definitely do the same thing in which I would choose a few crepes to order and try a few bites of each of them.”
Although these crepes look expensive while glancing over the menu, ranging from $12.50 to $16.50, they are worth every penny. “I would say they are worth the money, because they were truly amazing. I was not expecting the distinct flavors from each crepe as described on the menu,” claimed Lili. Agreeing with her, Nina added, “I would definitely say the crepes are worth the money because they come in pretty big portion sizes and are delicious.”
“I would totally recommend this restaurant and visit again,” claimed Lucy. Agreeing with her, Stefanovich added, “I would go again. The experience was great, and I would definitely recommend it as a place to go with friends if you are looking for a full meal or even just a sweet treat.” Whether ordering one item for yourself or sharing different crepes between friends, Les Crêpes has something for everyone.
I would recommend visiting Les Crêpes if you haven’t. Between the delicious food, clean environment, and friendly staff, it is an enjoyable experience.
