William Hershey (’24), a junior at Collegiate, has lots going on right now. He has been working on many things, from his grades, to his chess game, and even his basketball skills. Hershey is really trying to improve in all he does.
In an interview, he said that he is currently trying to be “more productive and am starting to do my homework.” He is pleased with his grades right now and is really trying to push and “keep my As and Bs.” When asked about a specific class, he said that he is “trying to keep Spanish up there.”
Hershey has also taken up chess in his free time. He has been improving quickly and “just hit 700 elo in chess, trying to get to 1,000.” After watching him play a game of chess, I can say that he is a very skilled player and seems to understand many different strategies.
Hershey has also been playing a great deal of basketball recently. As part of a Bon Air Basketball team this spring, he is hoping to improve his game. His team took some film at a recent game, and Hershey says that he is “making a tuff edit for my team.” He is also been putting in some work off of the court. He says that he has “been doing some plyometric exercises on the daily to increase my vertical jump.”
While talking with Hershey, I really got a sense that he wants to be the best at whatever he does. Whether playing chess or basketball, he is working to get better every day.
