Fall is one of the best times during the school year at Collegiate. Excitement for the Oddball dance, colder weather, and of course Homecoming courses through the halls. Girls talk about their spray tans, nails, dresses, who they’re going to go with, and all the little details leading up.
Another crucial part of Collegiate’s Homecoming weekend is the varsity football game, which took place on Saturday, Nov. 4. On that sunny Saturday, everyone dressed up in their best green and gold, the Senior girls wore their denim overalls, and everyone was amped up and ready to cheer on the football team. This year, we played rival Saint Christopher’s. The Match interviewed a few players the week before the game.
Captain Warner Lewis (’24) said, “It’s always a contest, and the whole team cares.” A special element about our football team is the relationships between players, and Lewis highlighted this. Starting defensive back Charlie Miller (’24) said that he did not get superstitious for the St. Chris-Collegiate Homecoming game, because, “Every game is the same. I treat it the same, so if the whole team treats it as a normal game, and we go out and do our best, then we will play to the best of our ability.” Middle linebacker Jack Dooley (’25) was very excited to be playing St. Chris in the Homecoming game, because it was his first year on varsity. He said, “I can’t wait to be in the atmosphere of the game and feel the crowd and fans. I am really excited to play hard.”
Sadly, Collegiate lost 7-14, but the team had plenty of support from a full student section and many families and alumni that came out to the game.
